North Dakota Reading & Math Program

North Dakota Reading Corps is an initiative to help every ND child become a successful reader by the end of third grade. Reading Corps combines the power of national service with the literacy science of how children learn to read. The program places AmeriCorps members as literacy tutors in North Dakota school districts plus four early childhood programs to implement research-based early literacy efforts for struggling readers. Tutors work one-on-one with students who are below proficiency in reading. Reading Corps tutors serve 15 or 20 hours per week August through May. Tutors receive training on the literacy interventions used and receive monthly coaching support. A new program starting this year is Math Corps. Math Corps is an evidence-based math tutoring program delivered by AmeriCorps Members that provides 90 minutes of weekly tutoring to 4th-8th grade students in pairs to improve foundational math skills required for algebra readiness.
