Explore Your Options Start by getting a feel for what's out there. Browse our five programs to see which one speaks to you. If you're not sure where to begin, take our short service quiz for a personalized recommendation. There's no commitment at this stage. Just curiosity, and that's enough. 
Reach Out Once something catches your eye, reach out to either Serve ND directly or with the program you're interested in. We're happy to answer questions, talk through what a typical day looks like, and help you figure out whether the timing and commitment level works for your life. 
Apply When you're ready, submit your application through the program you've chosen. Each program manages its own application process, but we're here to help guide you through it. You don't need a polished résumé or years of experience, you just need a genuine desire to serve and the willingness to show up.
Get Accepted & Prepare Once you're accepted into a program, you'll receive everything you need to get started, including onboarding information and training details. You'll know exactly what to expect before your first day.
Serve This is where it all comes together. You'll begin your volunteer term supported by your host organization, your program staff, and Serve ND. You'll receive ongoing training and coaching throughout, because we want you to thrive in your role.
Complete Your Term & Earn Your Award Finish your service hours and you'll receive your Segal AmeriCorps Education Award (if applicable), along with a wealth of skills, relationships, and experiences that will stay with you for life. FAQ's
Not at all. Most programs provide full training before and during your service term. What matters most is your attitude and your commitment. The skills will follow.
AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance throughout their service term to help cover everyday expenses. It's not a salary, but it's meaningful support. You'll also earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon completing your term, which can be applied to tuition or student loans.
It depends on the program. Some are part-time and run during the school year. Others are full-time or summer-based. When you explore individual programs, you'll find specific time commitment details, and we're always happy to talk through whether a program fits your schedule.
Possibly, depending on the program. Some part-time opportunities are designed with busy schedules in mind. Reach out to us and we'll help figure out what might work.
Programs are located across the state - from the Fargo and southeastern region to Jamestown and rural communities statewide. Location details are listed on each individual program page.
You'll receive your education award, and you'll walk away with the knowledge that your work made a lasting difference. Many members go on to careers in education, nonprofit work, public service, and community development, and some come back to serve again.
