The North Dakota Department of Commerce announced today that a total of $6,772,006 of the Governor’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds were awarded to four North Dakota communities.

The CDBG program provides financial assistance to eligible units of local governments in the form of grants for public facilities, public services, housing rehabilitation, and economic development projects. The primary beneficiaries of CDBG-funded projects must be low to moderate income individuals.

"We're thrilled to see CDBG funds make a real difference in Elgin, Fargo, Minot, and Turtle Lake," Commerce Community Development Director Maria Effertz said. "These investments will go towards essential projects that improve housing, infrastructure, or economic opportunities, ultimately strengthening the well-being of residents."

Applications were scored and ranked according to the approved state plan.

CDBG award recipients:

  • City of Elgin was awarded $3,583,065 for replacement of a water main susceptible to leaks and breaks due to aging.
  • City of West Fargo was awarded $1,610,000 for land acquisition that will be used to construct multi-family housing for low to moderate income individuals and families.
  • City of Minot was awarded $410,000 for land acquisition that will be used to construct multi-family housing for low to moderate income individuals and families.
  • City of Turtle Lake was awarded $1,168,941 for replacement of a sanitary sewer, upgrades to a lift station, and lagoon repairs.
