New Professional's Day is an opportunity for new local economic development professionals, community leaders involved in economic development, Commerce employees and others to learn more about the North Dakota Department of Commerce. The Commerce leadership team and program managers meet with attendees to discuss their needs and interests, and how Commerce programs and services may help their efforts. New Professional's Day is a half day event that happens in the morning. Attendees are encouraged to stay for the Economic Development Roundtable scheduled for the afternoon. New Professional's Day registration is now closed.
The bi-annual Economic Development Roundtable provides those keenly interested in economic development issues with an opportunity to submit agenda topics, and then Commerce staff work to bring leaders on these topics to the conversation. Commerce Commissioner Jay Schuler, hosts the afternoon meeting, following New Professional's Day, which includes a block of time for all attendees to discuss the successes and challenges in their respective communities or regions. The Economic Development Roundtable has been cancelled.
The difference between New Professional’s Day and the Roundtable is the content covered. New Professional's Day is an overview of all the programs that Commerce has to offer. The Roundtable is a group discussion on current topics, trends and program changes that effect economic development on the local level.
