The North Dakota Department of Commerce committed $100,000 in grant funds to help the city of Minnewaukan purchase a pumper truck along with two pickups for their rural fire department.
“We will be able to respond fast with newer more reliable trucks.,” said Brian Lynn with the City of Minnewaukan. “Updating our trucks will make a huge impact in our community. Fire protection is a big concern for everyone in the community.”
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is managed by the North Dakota Department of Commerce. The program provides financial assistance to eligible cities and counties in North Dakota. Funds are awarded in the form of grants and loans in three categories: economic development projects, public facilities and housing.  Primary beneficiaries of the CDBG funds are low-and moderate-income individuals. To apply, applicants must contact the regional council in their area.
“People in the community feel better knowing that they have newer equipment to serve them. It is also good for the moral of the volunteers in the fire department. They have newer, more reliable and safer equipment to protect the community with. It is huge for the Fire department and the community.” Lynn said.
