APUC to Review Funding Requests Totaling $589,567

The North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) will review funding requests for seven projects totaling $589,567 at its quarterly meeting March 22 in Carrington.

APUC is a program of the North Dakota Department of Commerce that administers grant programs for research and development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota agricultural products. The grants can be used for basic and applied research, marketing and utilization, farm diversification, nature-based agritourism, prototype and technology and technical assistance.

The following requests will be reviewed:
  • M Squared Genetics (Wahpeton) is requesting $114,350 to purchase testing equipment designed for seed breeding and research. The company focuses on non-GMO soybean breeding along with generating new soybean genetics from a germplasm base. Contact Tessa Mohs at 701-640-4425.
  • NDSU Department of Agriculture & Applied Economics (Fargo) is requesting $24,031 to develop a marketing plan to assist in selling a health supplement made of flaxseed hulls ground into a powder. Contact Dr. Thomas Wahl at 701-231-9481.
  • NDSU Department of Plant Sciences (Fargo) is requesting $33,803 to identify industrial hemp cultivars regarding the production of high quality hemp seed oil. Contact Bingcan Chen at 701-231-9450.
  • NDSU Department of Plant Sciences (Fargo) is requesting $32,510 to research apple cultivars for field evaluation. Contact Dai (David) Wenhao at 701-231-8473.
  • Prairie Brothers Brewing, LLC (Fargo) is requesting $40,000 to develop trade show banners, marketing collateral and advertising strategies aimed at increasing awareness of North Dakota grain production use in brewery facilities. Contact Donald Kenna at 701-282-7222.
  • Stone Mill, LLC (Richardton) is requesting $270,000 to develop marketing materials to promote their new state-of-the-art, food-safety processes. Stone Mill is expanding their operations by building a new grain processing facility and warehouse.   • UND - Dept. of Chemical Engineering (Grand Forks) is requesting $74,873 to design an advanced integrated solar-LFP battery powered water pump system capable of continuous performance in harsh environments. Contact Yong Hou at 701-777-6592.
