AmeriCorps Offers Opportunity

Are you ready to make a difference by becoming an AmeriCorps member?

Do you want to help a kid succeed in school? Mentor kids for the future? Help the homeless? Help kids get active for healthy futures? Or help a family rebuild their home after a devastating disaster?

Joining AmeriCorps is a way to put your idealism into action. As an AmeriCorps member, you can help make the world a better place: help children learn, protect the environment, or bring needed services to a low-income community. You will also learn teamwork, leadership, responsibility and other essential skills that will help you for the rest of your life. And you will gain the personal satisfaction of taking on challenges and seeing results.

Most AmeriCorps members receive student loan deferment, training, and may receive a living allowance. After you complete your term of service, you will also receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to help with college or training. For more information, visit AmeriCorps.gov.

Make a smart move with your student loans: Bank of ND

If federal student loans and grants don’t cover your college expenses, check out Bank of North Dakota’s DEAL Student Loan. After you complete the FAFSA, you’ll receive a letter from the college with financial aid information.  The letter will tell you about the grants and federal student aid you are eligible to receive. The DEAL can help fill the gap if you need any additional funds.

The DEAL Student Loan is a smart move! There are NO fees for North Dakota residents, whether attending college in or out of state.  You’ll receive friendly North Dakota service from people who want you to succeed. Please visit the Bank’s website or feel free to call if you have questions at 800.472.2166 extension 328.5763.

Making the Most of Summer Vacation.

Summer vacation is a time to relax, hang out at the lake, and sleep in, right? Maybe. Or it might be an opportunity to learn more about a job and a career you want to pursue.

During the school year through Succeed 2020, you get a glimpse at jobs and potential careers through career fairs, classroom speakers, workplace tours, and maybe even a job shadow. This gives you a taste of what your future might be like.

Youth Office Updates Career Conversations

Career Conversations let students hear from actual professionals how they got started in their career. These professionals discuss where they went to school, which degrees they received, what job duties they perform, and advice they would give to students considering the same career path. Career Counselors and students can use these videos to help make decision on careers and colleges and universities.

Career Conversations focus on high wage, high demand jobs. New career conversations added recently are autopsy technician, pilot, aircraft mechanic, water treatment operator, exercise physiologist, and acceleration coordinator.  If you have suggestions for career conversations, please email the Youth Office at youthforward@nd.gov.
