CollegeSave.JPGNorth Dakotans Saving Nearly Four Times More in College SAVE than Five Years Ago

North Dakota residents are saving an average of $2 million per month for college through College SAVE accounts. That’s a great deal of progress over the $575,000 average in savings per month from five years ago. The numbers of College SAVE accounts are more than three times greater than five years ago, totaling more than 18,000 accounts today.
While the numbers are encouraging, Bank of North Dakota president Eric Hardmeyer states, “There is significant room for growth. North Dakota has 52,000 households with children under the age of 18. Of these, one in seven is currently saving through College SAVE. Tens of thousands are missing grant opportunities offered by the State.”

N.D. Students Urged to Apply for Senate Youth Program

Students will visit Capitol Hill, the White House, Pentagon, State Department, Supreme Court, and other significant sites in Washington D.C. Students will also be able to attend meetings with the senators and other prominent officials.

The program runs March 4-11. Interested students should contact their high school principal or career advisor.

FAFSA application and Financial Aid Information Nights start in October

What??? You read that correctly. You can start completing your FAFSA application in October starting this year. If you have a student applying for college in the fall of 2017, you can use your 2015 tax return numbers.
The advantages of applying early are huge! You’ll have a better idea of what is needed for financial aid much earlier and it is one less thing to accomplish in the busy final months of high school. They’ve even made the FAFSA easier to complete. If you have all of your paperwork next to you, you will probably complete it in less than 30 minutes.
Still not sure what you should do next? Bank of North Dakota’s College Planning Center holds Financial Aid Information Nights starting in October. Some high school counselors host the evening at the school. For those who do not, you can sign up to watch the webinar from home. They usually take about one hour and start at 6 p.m. CT.
Dates for the webinars in 2016 are October 12 and 26, November 2, 16 and 30. We’ll hold more information nights starting in January. To register and receive information to log in, visit the College Planning Center.

BND logoBenefits at No Charge to Your Business

As a business owner, you know how important it is to take care of your employees. Bank of North Dakota has a no-cost option available that sends a clear signal to them that you care about their financial well-being.
Bank of North Dakota offers presentations of its programs, on-site at businesses, to assist people with planning for college, cradle to career. Chances are many of your employees don’t know about these options.

• College SAVE helps people start college savings for the special children in their lives early. Every newborn qualifies for the Children First grant and four out of five families qualify for at least one year of Matching Grants. Payroll deduction options are available as well.

• The College Planning Center is an excellent resource to help North Dakotans plan for college.

• DEAL Student Loans are available when federal student loans, grants, scholarships and savings aren’t enough to cover the costs of college.

• And finally, if your employees who are North Dakota residents haven’t taken advantage of the DEAL One Loan to refinance all of their student loans, it’s time they take a good look at it. Interest rates remain low at this time and many North Dakota families are enjoying the benefits of more cash in their pocket each month or repaying their loans more quickly.

We’d appreciate an opportunity to come to your business and present on any of these programs. Check out our Smart Move page to request a presentation.
