Dalrymple Announces $5.6 Million in Additional State Funding for Grand Sky UAS Park
Gov. Jack Dalrymple announced that Grand Forks County will receive $5.6 million in additional state funding to support the continued development of the Grand Sky Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Business and Aviation Park. “I am pleased to announce that an additional $5.6 million in state funding is available for the continued development of Grand Sky, the nation’s first UAS business park,” Dalrymple said.

North Dakota had the strongest economy in the country. The state's economy has seen a major boom from the rise of oil fracking in the last few years, and despite chaos in oil prices recently, North Dakota's economy remains robust.

APUC Committed Funding Requests Totaling $495,676
The North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) awarded funding requests for four projects totaling $495,676 at its quarterly meeting. The grants can be used for basic and applied research, marketing and utilization, farm diversification, nature-based agritourism, prototype and technology and technical assistance.

NDSU Using Sensors to Identify Weed Infestations
North Dakota State University researchers have received a grant to demonstrate the use of electronic sensors to identify weed infestations in cropland remotely. The project will identify which weeds are infesting specific crops, which parts of fields the weeds are infesting and the degree of the weed problem.

Land Board Awards $15 Million to K-12 Schools, $1.3 Million to Airports in Western ND
The Board of University and School Lands (Land Board) awarded $15 million in Energy Impact Grant funds to K-12 schools and another $1.3 million to airports in western North Dakota’s oil and gas region.

Governor's Workforce & HR Summit Features New Education Track
The Governor's Workforce & HR Rummit will be taking place September 16-17 at the Fargo Holiday Inn. This year they are introducing an education track for attendees.
LEGAL TRACK – The Legal Track will be available for those seeking specific topics such as discrimination, FMLA, NLRB and other employment law. Education sessions will be led by lawyers and professionals who are available to answer those challenging legal questions.
RECRUITERS TRACK – Workforce attraction is hot topic across the state and this track connects you with recruitment strategies that help fill your positions. Two sessions in this track include “Get More Candidates” and “ND Legendary Branding & Recruitment.” Presenters will have insight on building creative approaches and best practices to apply directly to your recruitment process.

There will be a minimum of 12 credits available for attendees who are maintaining the certifications.
In the continued effort of the Find the Good Life in North Dakota initiative, the Department of Commerce and the Greater Chamber of North Dakota will be attending “Hiring Our Heroes” hiring events at five military bases in September through December and are sponsored by the U.S. Chamber.
These events will be for military personnel transitioning out of the military and will be looking for permanent homes and civilian jobs. Businesses are also encouraged to attend. This will strengthening the recruitment efforts by visiting with potential employees and solidifying their interest in relocating to North Dakota. If Recruiter Network members aren’t able to attend events, they can send a one-page sheet of either company information or open positions to be given to interested attendees.
