Post Date: Apr 22 2015

North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple recently signed into law House Bill 1089, establishing tax incentives for data centers. The bill provides a sales and use tax exemption on computer software, hardware, servers, routers, cooling systems, backup power systems, raised flooring and other equipment necessary for the maintenance and operation of qualified data center.
To qualify for the incentive, a data center must have newly constructed or substantially refurbished facility consisting of a minimum of 16,000 square feet.
“This new law will help drive investment to North Dakota by allowing the state to compete with other Midwest states which have passed similar legislation,” North Dakota Economic Development & Finance Division project manager Laura Willard said. “The state has specifically designed its business and investment programs to deliver quicker, quality service along with more capital during a company's start-up, expansion or relocation.”

Business incentives, government accessibility, and workforce performance, combined with North Dakota's favorable position as one of the lowest cost states for operating a business, are driving top companies to establish operations in North Dakota.

“North Dakota is strategically positioned with financial packages and tax incentives to assist new and expanding businesses to enhance profitability,” Willard said.

The North Dakota Department of Commerce works to improve the quality of life for North Dakota citizens by leading efforts to attract, retain and expand wealth.
