Innovate ND Launches 2014 Boot Camp Series
Post Date: Feb 11 2014

By ND Commerce
Innovate ND, a statewide program that assists entrepreneurs in developing business ideas, is hosting a series of Proving Ground Boot Camps across the state. The first boot camp will be held March 1 at Bismarck State College National Energy Center of Excellence from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The Proving Ground Boot Camp Series is an excellent opportunity for North Dakota entrepreneurs to help not only build confidence in the development of their new business but growing their leadership capacity to launch their new venture successfully into the marketplace,” Jared Stober entrepreneurship program manager at the North Dakota Department of Commerce said. “The Proving Ground Boot Camp Series will help entrepreneurs develop and enhance their business plan in order to become market competitive and investor worthy.”

The first of the series of boot camps will focus on the business concept testing ground. In this boot camp, participants will learn entrepreneurship is a process and a mindset for finding, organizing resources and pursuing opportunities in the marketplace. The outcome for this boot camp will include developing a concise positioning statement, a framework for an executive summary and a roadmap to business milestones.

“This boot camp will teach enrollees how to strategically think about the five key ingredients necessary for a successful new business: value-creating idea, technical know-how, resources, contacts and customer orders,” Stober said. “Participants will also get to evaluate and test their new venture ideas against a framework for making better entrepreneurial decisions that will keep the business competitive in the market.”

  • Educational Services - Innovate ND offers multiple educational services to build a strong foundation for entrepreneurs to start their venture.  Entrepreneur Boot Camps will be held in the spring and fall of each year, and an online class is available upon enrollment in Innovate ND.  The educational services address key topics and Innovate ND participants can attend at any stage in their business development.  The educational content is valued at over $2,200.
  • Online Resources - The new Innovate ND website, currently in development and set to launch this summer, will serve as a resource to entrepreneurs looking to start or expand their business. Visitors will have access to new content and an online forum to help build their entrepreneurial resources and contacts.
  • Business Competitions – Innovate ND holds an annual competition in the spring of each year.  There are two categories for participants to compete; an Idea Competition and a Venture Competition. The Idea Competition provides an opportunity for startups to compete based on their business idea. This will also serve as a starting point for Innovate ND participants to gain feedback for their idea and serve as a launch pad to take their idea to the next level. Innovate ND also holds a venture competition targeted toward businesses that are ready for venture capital or at an advanced stage.
