North Dakota Department of Commerce: Created by Governor Hoeven in 2001 as a cabinet-level department to lead the state's economic development efforts, the ND Department of Commerce consists of four divisions: Community Services, Economic Development & Finance, Tourism and Workforce Development. Commissioner Shane Goettle, appointed by the Governor in 2005, is charged with strengthening the state's economic development efforts as the department's leader.

UND Center for Innovation: The Center for Innovation at the University of North Dakota was among the first entrepreneur outreach centers in the nation when formed in 1984. The Center provides assistance to innovators, entrepreneurs, and researchers to launch new ventures, commercialize new technologies, and secure access to entrepreneur capital. The Center manages two tech incubators in the 55-acre UND Tech Park, provides SBIR outreach to the state's tech community, and has formed three angel networks in Grand Forks, Fargo and Bismarck. The Center is working with the Department of Commerce to coordinate Innovate ND.

NDSU Research & Technology Park: Located on 55 acres in Fargo, ND, the NDSU Research and Technology Park is a place where university researchers and private industry can combine their talents to develop new technologies, methods and systems.
