Purpose

ThePetroleum Safety and Technology Center is enhancing the region's quality of life by focusing on new technologies to create higher paying, skilled jobs. To meet the critical workforce needs of the Oil and Gas industry in the Williston Basin, new oilfield technologies are co-developed and applied. A new training site, located on the WSC campus, will offer hands-on experience with an actual rig to advance methods and educate individuals on the latest technologies used in the oilfield industry.

Project Summary & Highlights

  • The Center reported that the first class for training was offered in November 2007.
  • Several new oilfield companies are participating in a safety training program offered by the Petroleum Safety and Technology Center to address the growing workforce needs of the oil industry. It is projected that 1200 people will be hired through 2010 to fill the industry need. Other companies are donating equipment and services to assist the project.
  • The Center reported that private sector partners Sun Well Service and Eagle Operating each created one new job so far.
