|
Purpose

Legislation in 2003 authorized the Beef Science Systems Center as a model for a coordinated meat processing industry that could be implemented in other parts of the state, region or country. The Center also looks to enhance NDSU's ability to provide leading research in the effects of genetics, management and nutrition regimens on carcass merit; quality and sensory characteristics; food safety and nutrition on resulting meat products; evaluate new and emerging technologies in slaughter, fabrication, further processing and value added meat products; and provide data on meat and meat marketing.
The Center was approved in 2003 and funded in 2006. Construction on the facility started in August 2007 and is anticipated to be completed in May 2008.
